Happy Wednesday! I’m down for the count this week so I thought we’d switch things up with a What My Boyfriend Ate Wednesday!
This kid really has a peach of my heart you guys. I’ve had an incredibly rough few days (short story: I fell and hurt my upper back/neck) and per usual, John stepped up and made sure I haven’t missed a beet. I love him from my head tomatoes. I was worried about neglecting the blog, but I am so grapeful to have funny and sweet guy around to fill in for me! I’ve wanted to do a What My Boyfriend Ate Wednesday after seeing some blogger friends do the same, and I thought this was the perfect time! I think we make a pretty great pear. Ok, enough puns- take it away, honey!
My name is John, aka Natalie’s boyfriend.
For breakfast this morning, I had my typical weekday breakfast of a smoothie and coffee. I make my smoothies pretty similar to Natty’s, but I like mine much sweeter. This smoothie was frozen cauliflower, banana, strawberry, and clementines, fresh ginger, turmeric, and spinach, Amazing Grass Greens Powder, and vanilla protein powder. For the liquid, I use a mix of orange juice and almond milk. When I use just almond milk, I think the whole thing ends up tasting too much like vanilla ice cream- adding OJ makes my smoothie much thinner and much sweeter.
I usually end up getting hungry pretty early in the work day, and if I don’t eat a responsible snack early on, I end up letting my extreme hunger by lunch time lead me to bad meal decisions… Often times Taco Bell… I tend to also be an emotional eater. If I get worked up or annoyed at work, I want to stuff my face to distract myself, so having snacks around leads to less Cheese Quesadillas and regret. I made it to about 9:30 this morning before I rage-ate a Kind Bar at my desk. Natty introduced me to these savory Kind Bars a few months ago. When she first mentioned them, I thought it sounded bizarre and terrible, but these things are freaking dope. They have multiple savory flavors and all of them are incredible. My favorites are the Honey Mustard, BBQ, and Thai Chili. I have never been too big on regular granola bars, I particularly didn’t like Kind Bars to be honest, but these savory ones are so good.
In the winter months, my office is really cold so I usually like hot lunches to warm me up, but since we’re finally starting to break into the warm season, I have reverted back to my classic PB&J sammich. If I were to pick, I would pick just plain white bread every week, but Natty forces me talks me into buying some bread that wont make me feel like dirt. So we usually get some bread with a bunch of nuts or seeds or grains- they aren’t terrible. This loaf is a little dry for my liking, but still good. This week I also bought some Horizon peanut butter sandwich crackers. They are really sweet and probably not the best things in the world for me, but a better choice than the classic Ritz. We mostly bought them because we had a coupon.
Around 2 o’clock my boss rolled into my office and said, “Don’t say I never get you anything,” and plopped an ice cream bar on my desk. Apparently he had a meeting where ice cream bars were given to attendees. What a time to be alive.
To finish off the day at office, I ate some Wheat Thins and this dope (vegan) cream cheese that Natty made. She bought a yogurt maker last week because we obviously do not have enough small kitchen appliances, and used it to make some cashew/ almond cream cheese. It’s good stuff that goes really well with Wheat Thins.
During the cooking/cooling process of dinner, I cracked open a cold one. Natty likes to show you all the cool kombuchas/ juices she drinks during the day. Well, I drink water during the day, and usually crack open a beer a couple nights a week. This week I snagged 21st Amendment’s “Back in Black” Black IPA. It’s a really fun take on an IPA, balancing the hoppiness of an IPA with much darker flavors.
For dinner tonight, we made one of my favorite dishes from a different blogger. We made the Baked Spaghetti with Kale, Mushrooms, and Tofu Ricotta from Hummusapien. We have this every few months and I love it. I love carbs a lot, so that is probably why I enjoy this meal so much. We ended up not having all of the correct portions of ingredients lying around, so we had to improvise and it turned out being one of our best batches. I look forward to eating the leftovers the rest of the week.
I hope you enjoyed my takeover and if you didn’t, Natty will be back next week….
